The Utama Review is calling for young writers (17 – 35 years of age) in Singapore to submit responses to historical pieces. Find a historical work from our selection that highlights an idea that you are drawn to and you feel is important for Singapore’s future. Write a response to that piece focusing on Singaporean identity and submit it to us. Ideally, responses should directly reflect and build on the themes present in the historical work by borrowing from your own contemporary experiences. We encourage you to write passionately and honestly about what has and should define our national imagination.
Each response piece should be of a similar length to the historical piece in question, but brevity is preferred. Although we mainly expect poetry and prose, we will also consider other kinds of written works. We are only looking for original works that have not been published previously. Successful entries will be will be paired together with the historical pieces and published in the final anthology. Deadline for submissions is Monday March 6th 2017.
